Howdy!
Over the years you've probably read articles about us or seen our advertisements. For generations our family has used "Good" horses to make a living. From ranch ropin’ and brandin’, cow work or fence mending, to a little Saturday night fun, like cow horse competitions, barrel chasing or a friendly horse race or two. No matter what we do with our horses; our experience, determination, hard work and honesty is the glue that holds this outfit together. Nowadays life has become so technical and impersonal, it’s more important than ever to have confidence in someone whose reputation and genuine concern stands above the desire to make a fast buck. We love our horses and are proud of what we’ve been able to do for the Quarter Horse breed. We invite you to come out to the ranch and see for yourself. – Gay and Jim Coates |
“Gay, her husband Jim, and her father Dick Pidcock have, collectively, put together; many years of experience, knowledge, hard work, and gut instinct to build Pidcock/Coates Quarter Horses - truly as fine a set of Foundation Quarter Horses as you will find anywhere” – Performance Horse
Our History
|
My father, Dick Pidcock, was one of the forerunners of the great foundation horses, although in his early years the Quarter Horse registry itself was just being developed. He and his father (a cowboy who traveled and worked on ranches throughout Colorado and Wyoming and played an occasional role in western movies) learned through experience what made a horse "good.”
They acquired their knowledge in a way that’s all but disappeared, through keen observation, vast experience and living a life of adventure and hard work. At Pidcock/Coates Quarter Horses we strive to carry on in this tradition and believe it is reflected in the horses we breed today. They not only have big hips and pretty faces, they have good minds to go along with the good looks. They’re the kind of horses that will always be sought after, no matter what kind of job you need them to do. – Gay Coates |
“Gay Coates' greatest gift from her father has been his teachings when it came to horses, and she says that 90 percent of what she does with a horse, whether it be riding, breeding or training, has come to her from his knowledge, experience and basic teachings.” – Performance Horse
