Howdy!
For generations our family has used "Good" horses to make a living. Whether it's on the ranch, out on the trail or in the arena, no matter what we do with horses our experience, determination, hard work and honesty is the glue that holds this outfit together. "We at Pidcock Coates Foundation Quarter Horses are proud of our foundation bloodlines, producing exceptional beauty, disposition and athletic ability since the early 1970s. We want to preserve our good reputation, along with the many years of experience and insight into horses and the breed we love. Most importantly we want to continue serving our very loyal and longstanding customer base. To assure this continuity, we have invited one of the Northwest’s most valuable and experienced breeders to join the Pidcock Coates Quarter Horse team. The addition of Chuck and Janette Bruner will help secure the future of one of the oldest and most successful Quarter Horse breeding programs - Pidcock Coates Quarter Horses and the Horse Shoe Lazy 3 brand." ~ Jim and Gay Coates |
Welcome Chuck and Janette Bruner
"We are so excited to be a part of the Pidcock Coates Quarter Horse team. Janette and I both grew up with horses as a major part of our lives, having gained knowledge and passion from our parents. We've been breeding AQHA and APHA horses for the last 30 years.
As a child, I remember looking at the Pidcock-Coates ads in Western Horseman and admiring the “Big Hips and Pretty Faces” they are so known for. In 2019 Janette and I came to the ranch and met Gay and Jim for the first time. We immediately fell in love with the horses they breed, their integrity and the way they do business. We quickly saw these horses not only had the ideal Foundation Quarter Horse conformation, but also great dispositions. We returned to the ranch a few weeks later to purchase our first Pidcock/Coates horse. Even though we live across the state we continued to stay in frequent contact and visited the ranch multiple times. We discovered we all think a lot alike and of course love the same type of Quarter Horses. The idea of reproducing like styles was on our minds when we purchased a second Pidcock-Coates horse a few months later. Over the next few years, the conversations deepened both professionally and personally. Gay sought our opinions and thoughts on horses and we felt that she valued our thinking. She and Jim showed an interest in us beyond horses. They wanted to know how our families were, how work was going and about other life events. We began to feel like family. When Gay and Jim asked if we would like to join their team, we felt honored and thrilled to assist them with the program. Our personal goal is to learn what they have done to make the business such a success. We hope to add to the program, while continuing the tradition of breeding the same great program Gay’s father, Dick Pidcock, established many years ago. We are also looking forward to meeting and building relationships with the loyal clientele, supporters, and future owners of Pidcock/Coates Quarter Horses." ~ Chuck and Janette Bruner |

Where it all started
|
My father, Dick Pidcock, was one of the forerunners of the great foundation horses, although in his early years the Quarter Horse registry itself was just being developed. He and his father (a cowboy who traveled and worked on ranches throughout Colorado and Wyoming and played an occasional role in western movies) learned through experience what made a horse "good.”
They acquired their knowledge in a way that’s all but disappeared, through keen observation, vast experience and living a life of adventure and hard work. At Pidcock/Coates Quarter Horses we strive to carry on in this tradition and believe it is reflected in the horses we breed today. They not only have big hips and pretty faces, they have good minds to go along with the good looks. They’re the kind of horses that will always be sought after, no matter what kind of job you need them to do. – Gay Coates |
“Gay Coates' greatest gift from her father has been his teachings when it came to horses, and she says that 90 percent of what she does with a horse, whether it be riding, breeding or training, has come to her from his knowledge, experience and basic teachings.” – Performance Horse
